Chien-Ming Wang and Jordan Zimmermann throw bullpens

(by Mike Henderson) The Washington Nationals' starting rotation will be a somewhat miscellaneous collection to start the 2010 season. But the Nats will be hoping a couple of guys who are coming back from injury will shore up the starting corps both this season and next.

(by Jim Kurtzke) Elijah Dukes is gone, but the Nats seem to be protecting other under-achieving, oft-injured veterans. Why?

Stephen Strasburg, Drew Storen off to Harrisburg (updated)

(by Mike Henderson) Stephen Strasburg and Drew Storen will begin the season fairly high up the minor-league ladder. Don't fret if you were looking forward to seeing them in D.C. on Opening Day, because it shouldn't take more than a couple of months for them both to make it to Nats Park.

The NL East, position by position: center field

(by Mike Henderson) Baseball's traditional speed and defensive showcase position is the home of several of the National League's most intriguing players. Since, at least in the NL East, it's also the most banged-up position, at least as intriguing will be the question of whom teams will chose to man the slot on Opening Day 2010.

Natmosphere rumbles in wake of Elijah Dukes' release

(by Mike Henderson) The engagement of troubled outfielder Elijah Dukes with the Washington Nationals has come to a startling end. Logan Kensing got the gate as well, which will probably startle no one, but the Dukes decision is hard to figure out.

Nats' latest cuts underscore shift in 'pen philosophy

(by Mike Henderson) The Washington Nationals made their latest set of cuts from their Major League roster on Monday, reducing its number from 51 players to 45. In doing so, they look to be gelling their bullpen into a unit with fewer specialized roles. What effect will simplicity have on flexibility or success?

(by Mike Henderson) Make no mistake: There aren't any budding Carl Yastrzemskis in the 2010 class of National League East left fielders. Even so, the guys we'll see out there this season are an interesting assortment, among whom the Washington Nationals' contributors will comfortably hold their own.

This Day in D.C. Baseball History

(by Mark Hornbaker) College Park, MD - Bert Shepard, a one legged veteran of World War II, tries out as a pitcher for the Washington Senators. The Senators owner Clark Griffith was so impressed with Shepard that he hired him as the team"s pitching coach. During the 1945 spring training Shepard with his artificial leg got to pitch in three games. For the rest training camp his main job was to pitch batting practice.
